Message These symptoms can be caused by the knock control system. What may be happening is that as you drive, the ECU is detecting knock, pulling timing and then dropping into low-octane mode where there is noticeable reduction in power. The ECU resets to high-octane mode when the car is restarted, so performance will instantly return to normal until you drive for a bit and the ECU pulls timing again. The only way to know for sure is to log the knock system while driving and see what it is up to. There are then a number of ways this issue can be eliminated by reprogramming the ECU.

Many aftermarket chips that I've looked at have broken knock control due to some of the ECU parameters not being properly re-adjusted for large injectors. This is because these parameters haven't been known about until recently, and can't be tuned properly in Nistune. The bigger the injectors, the worse this issue is. With 740cc injectors you will lose ~75% of the knock control capability of the ECU, including all high-rpm protection. A recipe for premature bearing failure and blown motors!
